Due to all the Health Insurance Carrier’s losses in the Affordable Care Act, they have made the decision to stop paying Insurance agents any more commissions. We have mouths to feed and employees to support, so we will not be able to help individuals enroll in health coverage at this time. Customers are to go to www.healthcare.gov and enroll directly through the marketplace. We are sorry it had to come to this, but at this time it is our decision. We will continue to service all the customers that we sold insurance to. We are checking with the attorney general to see if we can charge a consultation fee to help others enroll…….but right now that is murky because insurance agents are not set up to be consultants and we don’t know if our E&O will allow us to do this. We still offer all the other types of coverage like auto, home, Medicare, Life, Cancer, Long Term Care, and dental insurance. Again, we hope that the government fixes this so we can return to selling……….but at this point through the end of this year……that is all we can do.

There are changing times coming ahead for individuals and small business that want to purchase health insurance, because of new health care reform. The major change coming down the road has to deal with the new affordable health care act and the new health care exchanges. These exchanges will be marketplaces to purchase health insurance. Some will go online direct through the government, others would like the personal touch of an insurance agency to purchase their health insurance through. Don Allred Insurance will be selling in the health insurance exchange, so we can give you the personal touch that you have come to expect from our agency. Since North Carolina has made the decision to not pursue an exchange, the Federal Government will be responsible for setting up North Carolina’s online exchange. Our agency would have liked for North Carolina to set it up, but we understand the choice that they made. Medicaid is the reason that our state did not want to set up a online health exchange. North Carolina decided not to accept the Federal Government’s subsidy to help with the cost and the expansion of Medicaid. They think that the increase of Medicaid beneficiaries will hurt the state later down the road. Not taking the subsidy means that the Federal Government will have the say in who and what policies are offered in the health exchange. But since North Carolina did not accept the subsidy, the huge Medicaid expansion won’t have to be funded by North Carolina down the road. Don Allred Insurance is committed to our customers to provide up to date information on the health care exchange and it’s impact on residents of North Carolina. Stay tuned to www.nchealthagency.com for more information as it pertains to the new affordable health care act.
